Plastic-Free Meals, how to go about it?

Image
In recent years, there’s a growing awareness of the alarming amount of plastic pollution that we produce. In 2019, to cut down on the amount of plastic waste, more than 270 food and beverage outlets in Singapore phased out their use of disposable plastic straws.   However, plastic straws are not the only culprit either. Think of the plastic forks, spoons, and plastic wrapping around our disposable wooden chopsticks. We throw away all these whenever we take away our food. Most of the time, you receive your food in plastic or Styrofoam containers too. Even for local delights like Hainanese chicken rice, or our beloved black carrot cake, they’re in a paper wrapping lined with plastic that can’t be reused. Not to mention all the takeaway iced coffee and tea we buy every day.   A survey led by students from the National University of Singapore found that we generated an extra 1,334 tonnes of plastic waste from our takeaway and delivery meals during the 2-month circuit b...

Convenience of Tingkat

If you have been busy with your work and other schedules, your eating habits are not going to be as fulfilling as before. As a kid, you may have enjoyed the benefits of home-cooked food, but as you grow older, you start to eat out more often and your foods are getting less healthy as the days go by. What if there is a way to get back into the healthier way of eating? What if there is a way to eat home-cooked food without actually cooking at home?! Of course, there is a way and it is called a  Tingkat !! Tingkat catering  has always been part of many society’s histories and it is still in use by many communities as well. It is simply a metallic form of lunchbox then can keep the food warm and nice. Mostly used by construction workers who used to work from day to night in some countries, so that their food can still taste fresh and warm. In Singapore, we have them as a solution to our lack of cooking. Home-cooked food has always been part of every Singaporean’s childhood....

Change of dietary for the New Year 2021

Image
Are you looking to eat healthier for the new year, but you’re not sure where to start? Instead of throwing yourself into eating super clean meals off the bat, it helps to start small and expand your diet and your palate. What most people tend to overlook when they start a new diet is whether they’ll enjoy the experience. If we jump into a new diet when we’ve never tried out health foods like quinoa or cauliflower rice, we might get turned off dieting entirely if we try to force ourselves to enjoy the experience. Moreover, when you work on accustoming yourself to different dishes, you can enjoy new culinary delights at every meal. Most of us love sticking to the food that we’re used to because it brings us comfort and we enjoy eating it. However, variety is the spice of life, and constantly eating the same few foods can lead to fatigue and boredom. With all the new food fads in Singapore nowadays, it’s the best time to try out all the different types of food. You might find your n...

How to eat healthily?

Image
Healthy living has been the mantra for many in the 21 st  century as there is rising issues like obesity, cancer and many other diet-related health issues. The health promotion board of Singapore has also tried to advocate healthy eating and even have initiatives on displaying an HPB logo on foods that are considered healthy (less sugar, less salt, less oil). They can be seen on products or even food stalls at hawker centres. When it comes to food, people often try to save as much money as possible. And eating healthily all the time isn’t exactly a cheap thing to do. In fact, for most places, eating healthy can be quite costly. With the recent trend of having “bowls”, a concept of having a mixture of healthy ingredients with lean meat as part of their protein intake, these bowls usually cost close to $10 or more per meal. Of course, there are also other ways of eating healthy, such as cooking for your own meals. By cooking your own meals, you get to control the amount of sea...

Is Tingkat Meals Healthy?

Image
For those who do not know what a  Tingkat  or a  Tingkat catering  is, it’s basically delivered meals packed in metal tins or metal “lunchboxes” that reminds you of post-war Singapore. Nevertheless, Tingkat meals can often remind us of home-cooked food if you ever miss home-cooked food. Times have changed and people are starting to cook less and eating out more because of convenience. However, for convenience sake, we may not be taking care of our health the proper way. Outside foods usually contain more oil, salt and other forms of seasoning to enhance their flavour. Therefore,  Tingkat delivery   is a healthier choice and most convenient. Tingkat delivery services  cover your lunch and/or dinner, depending on your subscription. These subscriptions usually come in 10 days or 20 days, depending on your budget. Caterers such as Le Xin do offer a  Tingkat trial   period of 5 or 10 days to see whether you will like their food and servic...
